Custom LASIK (Wavefront/Zyoptix)
New technology – Aberrometry – allows us to measure the unique refractive patterns of each eye and create a custom treatment program for LASIK or PRK. Zyoptix maximizes visual quality and accuracy while minimizing unwanted images – aberrations – in your vision.
The Zyoptix system is the only Custom LASIK procedure in the world that can measure AND treat higher order aberrations beyond the edge of your natural pupil. This capability provides you with an added level of confidence in low light settings. In the FDA clinical study conducted for approval of the Zyoptix system for personalized vision correction, Zyoptix produced a better QUALITY of vision and excellent visual acuity.
100Hz Laser Technology
Commonwealth Eye Surgery was the first practice in Kentucky to implement the 100 Hz with Advanced Personalized Technology upgrade to our Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217z laser system. Zyoptix laser vision correction today is not only better than ever, but the time required for treatment has been dramatically reduced. This means that you can rest assured that your procedure will be done before you know it. In the time it takes to read this sentence, you will have almost completed your treatment with Bausch & Lombs 217z Technolas™ Zyoptix™ System. That’s fast! Bausch & Lomb’s 217x Technolas™ Zyoptix System with a 100Hz laser provides among the fastest treatments available in the U.S.
Our Bausch & Lomb Technolas™ Excimer laser, used for Custom Wavefront treatments, was designed around the patient with a focus not only on outstanding outcomes but comfort. We are excited to announce that we now have the latest technology that Bausch & Lomb has to offer. We now are able to perform LASIK in half the time with our faster laser. What does this mean for you? It means that your treatment time for LASIK surgery is reduced for a more comfortable procedure.
Ziemer ALL Laser LASIK
Have you always wanted LASIK eye surgery, but were told at some point that you are not a good candidate for LASIK because your corneas are too thin? Or have you always wanted LASIK, but have put off having the procedure because of fear? If so, then we have some exciting news for you!
With the introduction of our new Ziemer FEMTO LDV Femtosecond Laser, Commonwealth Eye Surgery now offers “all laser” LASIK procedures. This innovative technology is used to create an extremely precise and uniform flap that can be significantly thinner than possible with our traditional microkeratome. Thinner flaps allow for more tissue that is available for treatment with our excimer laser and for greater safety to our patients with thinner corneas. If you have questions about our “all laser” LASIK procedures or about LASIK eye surgery in general, please contact us today at 859-224-2655, 859-224-2655, or 859-224-2655.

Advanced Control Eyetracking (ACE)
Commonwealth Eye Surgery was the first practice in Central KY to implement Advanced Control Eyetracking (ACE) for all of our LASIK patients. The US Food and Drug Administration approved a first of its kind technology for LASIK eye surgery, known as Advanced Control Eyetracking (ACE), for the Technolas LASIK platform. Eyetracking allows lasers used during LASIK surgery to compensate for eye movements during the procedure, thus adding an important level of assurance. However, no eyetracker has been able to adjust for subtle rotations of the eye that can occur during the laser treatment – that is until now.
This new eyetracker locks on to the eye’s unique iris pattern just before the laser treatment begins, and then monitors the pattern throughout the procedure. When rotation of the iris pattern is detected during the treatment the direction of laser pulses is nearly instantaneously adjusted accordingly. This ensures that each laser pulse of the LASIK treatment is delivered to its intended location on the cornea. To see how ACE works, go to http://www.ready4lasik.com/310howACEWorks.aspx.
Baush & Lomb Technolas® 217z
Clinical Trial Results
Bausch & Lomb’s Technolas® 217z is a new generation excimer laser that uses innovative flying spot technology to increase the accuracy and efficiency of laser eye surgery. In the FDA clinical study conducted for this laser, the key outcome measures exceeded the values recommended by the FDA. The following data illustrates the superiority of this laser system platform in patients with myopia (nearsightedness) with < 7.0 diopters of sphere and < 3.0 diopters of astigmatism after just six months of surgery.
