Howell M. Findley, OD
Dr. Findley completed his undergraduate work in 1977, receiving a B.S. in Biology from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. He then graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, receiving his B.S. in Physiological Optics in 1979 and his O.D. degree (Doctor of Optometry) in 1981. Dr Findley completed the Optometric Fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida in 1982 and has been in private practice in Lexington, Kentucky, since 1984, when he helped introduce optometric co-management to the Bluegrass.
He has written several articles published in regional and national optometric journals, including a major review of intraocular lens implants, glaucoma, and a chapter on co-management. He was a reviewer for the American Optometric Association’s Cataract Guidelines and has lectured for the Southern Council of Optometrists. He serves and has served as an adjunct clinical professor at Ferris State University College of Optometry, Illinois College of Optometry, Indiana University School of Optometry, Ohio State University School of Optometry, Southern College of Optometry, University of Houston College of Optometry, Nova Southeastern School of Optometry, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry.
Dr. Findley is an active member of the American Optometric Association and of the Kentucky Optometric Association, which recognized him as “Young Optometrist of the Year: 1988-89. He was also recognized as “Optometrist of the Year” in 2006.
Both Dr. Ferguson and Dr. Findley have been named to the Outstanding Young Men of America and elected to the Kentucky Colonels for volunteer work associated with Vision U.S.A./The Kentucky Vision Project, which provides surgical and medical services for the working indigent.
