Lens Options

Light Adjustable Lens (LAL)
Highest precision, lowest level of visual side effects. This is the only lens that we can non-surgically fine tune after surgery through simple light treatments. By blending near and distance vision between the two eyes, we can achieve functional vision independence with low glare and halo complaints. Direct your own visual result by telling your doctor how much near, intermediate, and distance vision you can tolerate comfortably.

Advanced Lifestyle Lens
Trifocal IOL – a trifocal lens provides full range of vision with astigmatism correction. Almost all our patients report full visual freedom with this lens. You may experience reduction in contrast vision along with halos and glare around lights at night. A high percentage of our patients adapt to these visual effects and our success rate is very high with this lens.
Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) – an EDOF lens provides increased range of vision with astigmatism correction with less glare, halos, and contrast loss than a trifocal lens. Like the LAL, a blended approach is used to achieve glasses independence. comfortably.

Laser Enhanced Cataract Surgery (LECS) Astigmatism & Single Focus
The goal with is to limit dependence on glasses to certain activities (usually intermediate/near tasks). These patients typically wear reading glasses but are otherwise able to see well to drive and perform other distance tasks without correction.

Traditional Cataract Surgery (TCS)
Covered by Medicare and other health insurance (minus deductible). There are no other out of pocket expenses other than eye drops and ointment. The lens used is a monofocal (single focus) and most patients will need to wear bifocal glasses full time after surgery to see best at distance, intermediate, and near. The lens can be targeted for distance, intermediate, or near depending on your preference.

Recovery
You’ll need to bring someone with you on the day of your procedure to drive you home. After cataract surgery, you can usually return to most of your normal activities, but should avoid anything strenuous while your eye heals. Your doctor will prescribe eye drops for you to use as directed, and we’ll schedule several follow-up visits to closely monitor your recovery.
Same Day Cataract Surgery
Our patients love the convenience of Same Day Cataract Surgery. In just one visit, you can complete your cataract evaluation and your first surgery. The next day, we would see you for your post-op visit and to schedule your second eye's cataract procedure.
Back to Back (B2B) Cataract Surgery
We offer the unique convenience of having your first cataract removal on one day, and returning to Commonwealth Eye Surgery for your one day post-op visit and have your second cataract removal that same day. Patients love this time-saving convenience and being able to get back to enjoying life with clear vision in a much shorter time frame!
