What is Contoura® Vision?

Contoura® Vision is a type of laser eye surgery we call topography-guided LASIK.

Topography-guided LASIK plots and analyzes up to 22,000 elevation points in your cornea, which generates a highly customized and accurate cornea profile down to the last detail. This means that during the procedure, the laser will be guided to precisely reshape your cornea and correct your vision.

Contoura® Vision is a type of bladeless LASIK procedure that ensures your recovery period is optimized and post-op symptoms are minimized. When you choose a Contoura® Vision procedure, you're choosing a laser eye surgery that's calibrated at the highest level of accuracy and personalization.

Why Contoura® Vision?

The truth is, no two eyes are the same. Each one is as unique as your fingerprint. That's why the type of laser treatment matters.

The cornea may look flat and featureless on the surface. But in reality, it's made up of multiple elevation points and contours.

When the cornea is misshapen, it may lead to conditions such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), or astigmatism (blurred distorted vision).

With so many options for Laser Vision Correction available, choose a procedure where you don't need to compromise between accuracy and safety. Choose a LASIK procedure where up to 98.4% of patients were satisfied and said they would choose it again.

Wavelight plus, the next evolution in LASIK, is one of the most advanced innovations in laser eye surgery today. This technology allows us to deliver exceptional precision, enhanced safety, and a truly personalized treatment for every patient.

Wavelight plus builds on traditional custom LASIK by mapping the unique optical characteristics of your eyes. This highly individualized approach improves accuracy and helps achieve visual results that go beyond standard LASIK procedures.

The result? Sharper, clearer vision with reduced side effects and a more refined overall experience. With Wavelight plus, you're not just improving your vision, you're experiencing LASIK at its highest level.

Why Wavelight plus?

Wavelight plus uses AI-driven technology and ray-tracing technology to create a precise 3-D model or full "digital twin" of the eye, measuring how light moves through the entirety of the eye to create a more complete, customized, personalized treatment plan.  Wavelight plus is an exceptionally personalized LASIK treatment, with outstanding results. In a recent clinical study, results with Wavelight plus speak for themselves: every patient achieved 20/20 vision*, 89% achieved 20/16*, and more than half achieved 20/12.5 vision* - results that translate into crisp, high-definition vision that often outperforms what glasses and contacts could deliver.

*In a real-world private practice setting - 200 patients (400 eyes).

What to Expect Throughout Your Advanced LASIK Procedure at Commonwealth Eye Surgery

Before Your Procedure

Your eye doctor will perform a preliminary eye exam to determine if Custom Wavelight Vision Correction is right for you. This part will be non-invasive and painless. Your eye doctor will then take the measurements needed to create an accurate map of your eye and your cornea's topography.

During Your Procedure

On the day of the procedure, you will receive anesthetic eye drops to numb your eyes. Guided by your personalized profile, the laser will correct your vision by precisely reshaping your cornea based Custom Wavelight Vision Correction measurements and technology. Within minutes, the procedure will be over and healing begins - generally without pain or bandages.

After Your Procedure

You will be led into a post-procedure room, where you will rest with protective eye shields for about an hour. It is recommended to have someone else drive you home. Rest comfortably at home for at least a few hours with protective eye shields.

In most cases, you can enjoy improved eyesight almost immediately. You can typically return to normal activities the next day after your Custom Wavelight Vision Correction procedure.
