January is Glaucoma Awareness Month
January 12, 2012How are We Doing???
January 19, 2012We’ve all seen the coupons, Groupons, “buy one get one free” and other advertising gimmicks to entice prospective buyers to “act now before it’s too late”. It’s a common sales tactic to elicit an emotional response and we’ve all fallen prey to the antics one time or another. But doctors warn prospective patients to do their research prior to making purchases pertaining to surgery.
Prospective LASIK patients should strongly consider a serious conversation with their local eye doctor prior to deciding if LASIK is right for them. Optometrists are a great resource for helping patients to make an informed decision, rather than an emotional one. Typically they work independently from the surgeons, have seen work from all surgeons in the area and are very knowledgeable in the risks, benefits and limitations of LASIK or other refractive surgeries. Dr. Ferguson commonly states that, “the informed patient is the best patient”. If considering LASIK or any other elective surgery, be sure and ask your doctor if it’s right for you.
