Christopher J. Kuc, OD, is the optometrist at the Louisville office of Commonwealth Eye Surgery. Training and credentials
Dr. Kuc graduated from Grove City College near Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science in molecular biology and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia in 2003. He is licensed to practice optometry by the Kentucky Board of Optometric Examiners.
He is a diplomate of the American Board of Optometry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO). He is a certified Adjustment Specialist for the Light Adjustable Lens; light adjustments for that lens take place at our Lexington clinic.
Over his career Dr. Kuc has managed corneal surface disease, dry eye, glaucoma, diabetic eye care, macular degeneration, and emergency eye care. He is an experienced surgical co-manager who has guided patients through the period before and after surgery in collaboration with surgeons at Virginia Eye Consultants and Chester County Eye Care.
Teaching, leadership, and publishing
During his time in Pennsylvania, Dr. Kuc served as a trustee on the board of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association and as president of his local optometric society. He has served as adjunct clinical professor for Pacific University College of Optometry, the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and Southern College of Optometry. He has been published in a peer reviewed eye journal and has contributed to national optometry publications. He lectures locally and nationally on ocular disease management and provides continuing education programs for his fellow optometrists.

Dr. Kuc performs the consultations and eye exams at our Louisville office. Your consultation with us is with him: you may have noticed that menus and phone screens are harder to read, your eye doctor may have told you a cataract is forming, or you may be tired of contacts and want to know if laser vision correction is possible for you. He examines your eyes and asks how you use your vision day to day: the reading, the night driving, the hours at a screen, the time outdoors. That conversation is how we work out which option, if any, fits the way you live.
One of our surgeons consults with you when your case calls for it, and if surgery is the right next step, it is performed by one of our ophthalmologists: LASIK and PRK at our Louisville office, and cataract surgery, the EVO ICL, refractive lens exchange, and the Light Adjustable Lens at DuPont Surgery Center in Louisville.
After surgery, Dr. Kuc sees you for routine follow up visits for LASIK, PRK, cataract surgery, the EVO ICL, refractive lens exchange, and YAG capsulotomy, or those visits happen with your own optometrist, close to home. Our surgeons stay involved as needed. Light adjustment visits for the Light Adjustable Lens take place at our Lexington clinic.
YAG capsulotomy and SLT in the office
Dr. Kuc performs YAG capsulotomy at our Louisville office. After cataract surgery, the back surface of the capsule that holds the lens implant in place can become hazy. A YAG laser capsulotomy treats that hazy capsule. It is done in the office with the office's YAG laser, and Dr. Kuc performs it for our Louisville patients. Dr. Kuc also performs selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) at our Louisville office. SLT is a laser treatment for raised eye pressure in glaucoma.
Working with your own eye doctor
Commonwealth Eye Surgery works with your own optometrist through co-management. If your own eye doctor sent you to us, that doctor can stay part of your care: the exams before surgery and the visits after it can happen close to home, with the doctor who already knows your eyes, while our surgeons perform the surgery. At our Louisville office, Dr. Kuc is the optometrist you will see on our side of that arrangement. We are locally and privately owned, and decisions about your care are made right here in Kentucky.
