Women’s Eye Health & You

Did you know that two-thirds of blindness and visual impairment occurs in women? And that three quarters of visual impairment is estimated to be preventable or correctable and that one third of age-related macular disease and cataract may be due to smoking*? Dry eyes can also be a side effect of menopause. That’s why it’s even more important for women to take good care of their eyes.

Here are some tips for making sure you’re eyes are in the best health:

  • Avoid looking at computers or reading  for long periods of time. If you must, blink frequently to redistribute eye fluid.
  • If you live or work in a dry space, use a humidifier to add moisture the air.
  • Take a look at the medications you take to make sure they don’t contribute to eye dryness.
  • Make sure you get enough essential fatty acids and anti-inflammatory foods in your diet.
