Understanding Your Options

Many of us experience refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism which causes us to need glasses or contacts to see clearly.  Some of us have enjoyed excellent natural vision their whole lives but notice changes in their vision after the age of 40.

While LASIK is an excellent choice for those wanting to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, LASIK cannot correct presbyopia.  Presbyopia is the natural aging process of the lens inside your eye that eventually affects your close vision.  If you’re in your 40’s or older, and have both eyes corrected for distance, you will eventually need reading glasses to see up close and intermediate distances.

RLE may be an excellent option if you would like less dependence on glasses, contacts, AND reading glasses.

Some Things to Consider Prior to Your RLE Evaluation

At the time of your RLE evaluation, our experts will help determine which Lifestyle Lens will be best for your vision goals, your lifestyle and activities, and your age.

At what distance do you spend most of your visual time?  Distance vision for driving, golfing, watching TV?  Close vision for reading, using your computer or smart phone?

What aspects of your life would be most improved with clear vision?  Your job, hobbies, etc

Should I have LASIK in my 50’s and 60’s?

It’s important to consider the longevity of the procedure that you choose.  Having LASIK in your 50’s and 60’s will provide great distance vision and even some close vision if you choose to have monovision with LASIK.  However, having LASIK will not prevent cataracts from occurring, which happens to all of us eventually as we age. Having RLE replaces the natural lens inside the eye with a Lifestyle Lens to provide you with increased clarity at all distances, and because that lens is permanent, you will never develop cataracts or need cataract surgery.
